Justice Begins With Us

Justice Begins With Us: Organizing in the Church for Social Change is a community event that I curated in partnership with the North Texas Conference Board of Church & Society. Our goal was to reach and educate Methodist leaders and congregations about social justice and community care within the North Texas region. Participation was available both in-person and online through Zoom and live-streaming. Below you will find examples of my writing and the materials I created for this event.

Join us for an inspiring and educational event, "Justice Begins With Us: Organizing in the Church for Social Change," presented by the North Texas Conference Board of Church & Society in partnership with FUMC Denton. This event promises to be a transformative experience where we delve into the realm of Church & Society and explore its profound impact on social change.

Our educational program, featuring a panel of speakers, will shed light on the origins and significance of Church & Society within the United Methodist Church, drawing from its deep roots in Wesleyan theology. By delving into its history and sharing what is happening today, we aim to empower churches to embrace their role as catalysts for positive change in their communities.

We are especially thrilled to welcome Bishop Ruben Saenz Jr. as a featured speaker at this event. Bishop Saenz is looking forward to sharing his thoughts on the importance of the board of Church and Society, the role it plays as the moral voice for the denomination and our conference, as well as the theological relevance of Church and Society’s role.

To facilitate focused discussions and encourage collaboration, we will offer breakout sessions to foster engagement, allowing participants to share their perspectives, exchange ideas, and forge meaningful connections.

The event will commence with a complementary dinner for registered attendees and their families, and childcare will be available to ensure that parents can fully participate in the event without any concerns.

We will be live-streaming the event so that everyone can participate regardless of their location.

about the north texas board of church and society:

The North Texas Conference UMC Church and Society Committee is “dedicated to the work of living faith, seeking justice and pursuing peace.” It is our passion and mission in the North Texas Conference to align ourselves with the vision of General Board of Church and Society in creating a conference that is more just and equitable for all people. Our previous work and commitment focused on eradicating youth homelessness and poverty in the North Texas Conference. Since the NTC has already invested in public schools through the One + One program, we began discussing how we might find a way to more effectively align our mission with the focus of the conference.
